How CFOs Should Champion Change for ERP Success
“Drive Enterprise-wide Business Engagement Through AccountabilityCFOs should ensure all functions, and all levels of the organization are engaged with their ERP program. Our Ignition Guide to Developing a Finance Technology Change Management Program helps enable finance teams to identify and assign roles to stakeholders. Early in the program, CFOs must drive staff expectations about what their roles are in the ERP and what support they need to provide. Staff should be held accountable for driving the ERP KPIs for their specific functions and championing simplification efforts in their operational areas by delivering standard processes throughout the organization. For example:
- The chief accounting officer (CAO) should be accountable for delivering an ERP design that enables a reduced close cycle time and a reduction in manual journal entry or unreconciled balances. The CAO should also ensure the global record-to-report design as defined in the ERP is executed in a standard way throughout the organization.
- Financial planning and analysis (FP&A) leaders should ensure their teams are engaged to gather requirements and design the ERP so that the system can drive visibility to financial KPIs and enhance the reporting and analytic capability of their function.
CFOs should also assign ERP deliverables within their staff’s yearly business objectives to drive the right accountability within their function. They should strongly encourage that their teams be represented either as part of the central ERP team or as “superusers” who will be engaged to provide requirements and test the new functionality and processes the ERP enables.”
